Here is a little more info about the 5 Layer Breath from the Morning Liberator..
As a yogi and a meditator, I've tried many, many, many breath techniques. All of the techniques did have an effect on me. Mostly causing tension in my mind or my body. I had to 'think' the entire time to do the practice 'right' ... to count the breath, or hold the breath, or force the breath, or breathe faster, or breathe slower, etc. ... all causing a flight or flight response in my body!
Why? The fact of the matter is, none of the practices were the natural breath! There is no 'thinking' required for breathing ... just like "there is no crying in baseball!" :-)
We are all born knowing how to breathe. If you watch a baby breathe, you'll see a natural, peaceful, fluid, unhindered, beautiful breath!
Wouldn't you like to remember how it felt to have that natural, peaceful, fluid, unhindered, beautiful breath? Here you go!
Begin the 5 Layer Breath before getting out of bed!
(1) Inhale thru the nose. Exhale thru a soft, open mouth, allowing the jaw to fall open. An added bonus is the release of jaw tension!
(2) Inhale and exhale of equal duration. The duration doesn't have to be a specific length of time. Just be sure to give equal time to both the inhalation and exhalation.
(3) No pause between the inhale and exhale. No holding of the breath. Create a fluid, circular exchange of air, in and out of your body.
(4) Breathe into every cell of your body, allowing your belly to rise on the inhale and deflate on the exhale. No more holding your belly in to 'look good'! Allow your belly to expand, allowing in more air, to 'feel good'!
(5) Smile to invite in the air! No one wants to walk into a door that has a 'keep out' sign on it! Be inviting to the air by smiling!
If you are realizing you have not been breathing this way for quite some time, then you have no remembrance of how good it feels to breathe this way! So why not give it a try?
